The Sandman

£24.00 - £29.00

Captured at low tide on the beautiful sands of Scalpsie Beach, this striking image combines the peaceful beauty of the Isle of Bute with a fascinating reminder of Britain's wartime history. Looking across the expansive beach towards the dramatic outline of the Isle of Arran, the scene is dominated by a single weathered wooden post standing alone against the vast landscape.

Originally one of many stakes driven deep into the sand during the Second World War, these defences were installed to prevent enemy aircraft from landing spies or infiltrators on the beach. Although the threat never materialised, this solitary survivor remains as a poignant reminder of a remarkable chapter in Scotland's coastal history.

The lone post, isolated against the sweeping sands and distant mountains, evokes the image of a solitary figure standing in quiet contemplation, lending the photograph both atmosphere and mystery.
